Q&A: Quarantine and Chill
Quarantine Day 7: You asked, I’m about to answer. Q&As are some of my favorite posts because it gives me a chance to talk about things that I wouldn’t normally post and you all get to know me a little better. I said ask away, and some of the questions got a little deep. Grab a snack (wash your hands first), and let’s get into it…
Are you active in the church you go to and if so, what do you do? I’m currently in the process of creating a tutoring ministry for K-12 students. Aside from that, the short answer is I’m involved with the youth, I’m on the hospitality committee that welcomes everyone, I’m a part of some leadership and event planning stuff, and I do the announcements/welcome.
Do you love makeup or are you obsessed with it? Probably a little bit of both lol. I have a little collection going. It’s just fun to play around with and sometimes I like the aesthetic of displaying products more than actually applying it all.
What else could you see yourself doing in your career if you didn’t become a teacher? Originally I was planning to be a family therapist and I may still pursue that at some point. I think I’ve always wanted to work with families so I probably would’ve ended up doing something related to that. The wild part of me says that I would find a way to start a really dope podcast or something and monetize that.
Do you enjoy going on dates? I do. I’m a pretty simple person so it’s not really about the actual activity for me - if I’m really feeling you I’m just excited to be around you and spend time.
What’s your skincare routine? I always hesitate to answer this question because everyone’s skin is different and I know one of the products I use has been a little controversial. I wash my face with this cleanser from Target, a whipped moisturizer from Neutrogena, and twice a week I’ll exfoliate with the St. Ives apricot scrub. Please don’t drag me for the scrub lol… I’ve never had an issue with it but I know everyone is different. If my skin is drier than usual then I’ll use the Neutrogena water gel moisturizer. The whipped one is actually a body balm but I use it for my face. (Not sponsored, but should be at this point.)
What’s the most defeated you’ve felt and how did you overcome it? Ironically, it was right after I graduated, which would seem like a great accomplishment. I thought I would fall right into my career and everything would be great, but I struggled with finding a career path and I found that most employers didn’t really care that I had a degree or what it was in. People around me seemed to have all their lives together and mine had no direction, no real career. My life’s identity was defined as being a student for so long that I didn’t know how to adjust to not being in school for a while. I took it one day at a time and reassured myself that things would fall into place when they were supposed to. That sounds cliche but it’s true... I would actually repeat “it’s going to be okay” to myself every single day multiple times a day until I felt it to be true. I still do that when I’m feeling a little lost. But I acknowledged and owned my feelings and reached out to people who I knew would listen and provide comfort.
Are you coming back to (insert church name) any time soon? We miss you. The short answer is no, but I miss some of you guys too!
When’s the last time you cleaned your ears? Heavy sigh lol. You play all day!
Are you dating? If you could call it that lol.
What are some of your favorite go to brands? I think this person was referring to beauty - Maybelline, Dose of Colors, NYX, and Morphe.
Who do you watch most on YouTube? Raven Elyse.
Who takes your photos? When I do an actual photoshoot, it’s Dark City Visuals. Most of the time it’s me and the selfie timer.
Do teachers still get paid during the school closures? I can only speak for my district and ones in my area, but yes. We’re about to transition into “distance learning” so we’ll be teaching online.
What are your turn on and turn offs for men? Okay, not to be fake deep but intellect, vulnerability, and effort is attractive to me. Being able to depend on someone is what I like (I don’t mean financially). I’m turned off by “availability” - if just anyone can have it I don’t want it.
Spill the tea… is teaching really a broke profession? Not necessarily. Everyone’s income is different but I definitely know some people who are making $100k a year.
What’s your favorite snack? Kettle chips all day!
Who do you look most alike, mom or dad? “You yo daddy’s son!” We’re not exactly twins but I have a lot of his features.
Favorite song to work out to? Working out, we don’t know her... I have a whole playlist but “Middle Child” by J. Cole is always in the rotation - it’s fun doing reps to the beat.
Kids? Do I have them - no. Do I want them - one day.
Start a YouTube channel!!!! We need to see the vlogs! I’m not sure y’all would be excited by my daily life lol.
Can you Tik Tok? Absolutely not. Those dances are way too complicated. I grew up with Crank That and Two Step, I’m out of breath just thinking about the little Renegade moves.
What’s your favorite blog post? This one right here.
If you could be quarantined with a celebrity who would you pick? I am definitely willing to compromise my health for Rome Flynn.
What’s one of your family traditions? My sister and I have Sister Saturday where we talk on the phone to catch up on our week and talk about our favorite shows.
How are you spending your days off? Sleeping, eating, Netflix, Hulu, reading, painting, social media, repeat.
Coconut or almond milk? I’m allergic to coconut but I think it’s time for people to start talking about how coconut anything is nasty. Almond milk alllll day.
Can you go live on Instagram? And talk about what? Lol.
What was the last long trip you went on and how was it? In December I went to Baltimore and Washington, D.C. Aside from sightseeing in D.C., it was… anticlimactic.
Do you prefer gel or dip powder? I like them for different reasons. Gel is easier and faster but dip lasts longer. I’ve only tried dip powder once.
And that’s a wrap! If you have any other questions, you know where to find me! Stay safe, wash your hands, keep it saucy. See you in my next post!
All My Love,
Tyler
